¹⁰ Therefore she said to Abraham, “^(A)Drive out this slave woman and her son, for the son of this slave woman shall not be an heir with my son ^[a]Isaac!” ^11 (B)The matter ^[b]distressed Abraham greatly because of his son Ishmael. ¹² But God said to Abraham, “^[c]Do not be distressed because of the boy and your slave woman; whatever Sarah tells you, listen to her, for ^(C)through Isaac ^[d]your descendants shall be named.

¹⁰ He said, “^(A)I will certainly return to you ^[a]at this time next year; and behold, your wife Sarah will have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door, which was behind him. ¹¹ Now ^(B)Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; Sarah was ^(C)past ^[b]childbearing. ¹² So Sarah laughed ^[c]to herself, saying, “^(D)After I have become old, am I to have pleasure, my ^(E)lord being old also?” ¹³ But the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I actually give birth to a child, when I am so old?’ ^14 (F)Is anything too ^[d]difficult for the Lord? At the ^(G)appointed time I will return to you, ^[e]at this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”

²¹ Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was unable to have children; and ^(A)the Lord ^[a]answered him, and his wife Rebekah ^(B)conceived. ²² But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If it is so, why am I in this condition?” So she went to ^(C)inquire of the Lord. ²³ And the Lord said to her,
